Tiffany: When did you start your business?
Susan: We started in October 2006
Tiffany: Why did you get started in this business?
Susan: Mainly because of the increase in crime. The other co-owner, Martha and I lived in Atlanta and Martha took the train back in forth to work. During the colder months she had to walk the longer distance to her and with it being dark outside and the increase in crime we thought it was a good idea that she purchase a stun gun. That’s basically where it began.
Tiffany: What were some of the obstacles you had to face and how did you overcome those obstacles?
Susan: Oh gosh, we are still facing obstacles. The major obstacle is getting our website optimized Google, Yahoo and some of the other search engines to recognize our website. It is very difficult.
Tiffany: How has this business changed your life?
Susan: Its made me more aware of my surroundings, just learning about the crime rates in the different cities and states. I’m able to work at home which I was unable to do before and it definitely supplements the income.
Tiffany: What advice would you give to someone else starting a business?
Susan: That’s kind of hard to say right now, because we are still learning ourselves. Even after 3-4 years, you just have to go with the flow and do research. The search engines are constantly changing things so keeping up with that and optimizing your website.
Tiffany: What methods do you use for advertising?
Susan: Google AdWords, Yahoo Adwords and inbound links, basically about what everyone else is doing. It is still a struggle especially with the economy these days. We try to stay competitive with the other distributors and run promotions and sale items. We try.
Tiffany: What’s your favorite product?
Susan: Taser C2 because it is the best self defense product that you can purchase. It is probably the most expensive but I think it’s the best. You have a 15 foot range you don’t have to wait for the attacker to be right on top of you to defend your self. I carry the stun baton or the Taser C2 when I walk my dogs.
Tiffany: What is the craziest story that a customer has told you?
Susan: It’s a true story, I have a customer in Texas who bought a X26C and she worked from home and had a client come over. He was being really belligerent towards her and had attempted to hit her and she was like Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute, she ran to her bedroom grabbed the X26C and he lunged at her and she used it on him. Then she called the cops and they said that she was right in using it.
My thing is that there are a lot of younger folks out there that think that it won’t happen to them. They think that they are invincible. That pisses me off a lot because I was there you know, many years ago. And I know how they feel but there is so much more out there now, in the news saying this is happening or that is happening. You think they would be more aware about the crime and what could happen. And still its, “Oh that would never happen to me”. And then it happens to a friend of theirs then they start looking for items.
Tiffany: Can you give me one of your internet marketing secrets?
Susan: Internet secret, we are pretty much doing the same thing as every one else. No matter where we go grocery store, hair salon, doctors office we tell them what we do. You have to spread word.
Tiffany: Ok, Well I just wanted to thank you again for taking this time to speak with me.
Susan: Thank you!
